Eva Jinek has won the Sonja Barend Award for the best television interview for the second time. She received the prize for her interview with Camille van Gestel, one of Sywert van Lienden’s partners in the controversial face mask deal.
The professional jury included AD columnist Angela de Jong and NOS presenter Simone Weimans. “This interview shows Eva Jinek at her best,” says De Jong. “The build-up was textbook, she clamped him down mercilessly and the comment ‘you are not obliged to be an asshole’ finished it off.”

‘Top form’
Weimans is also full of praise and calls the interview “the conversation we were waiting for. Question by question, Van Gestel’s already weak story crumbles. Eva in top form.” Jinek also won in 2018, for her interview with Denk politician Farid Azarkan. Last year the prize went to Mariëlle Tweebeeke for her interview with Ukrainian President Zelensky.
Eight other interviews were nominated. The conversations that Rutger Castricum (PowNed) had with three right-wing extremists in a broadcast of Rutger and the nationalists came in second place. “He gives us a picture of people’s ideas, controversial ideas, scary sometimes, but we can now take note of it from the inside,” says jury member Maartje van Weegen. “Distinctive in form and content. Special.”
