Bullied
Van Dorst expertly delegates the testing of the electricity wire to Rijneveld and Jinek. The latter gets a big shock, but at least the goats won’t be able to escape. “He works”, concludes Jinek while the rest laugh at themselves.
Rijneveld is going to pick berries for jam together with Van Dorst. While picking, a candid conversation about gender ensues between the two.
‘s bestselling author The evening is discomfort was bullied a lot in high school because of his boyish appearance. In response, they therefore started to dress extra girlishly. That stopped when one day Rijneveld’s hair was cut short: “That changed something, I felt much more myself,” they tell Van Dorst.
Second name
The name Marieke was expanded with his second name: Lucas. “It felt like so much freedom,” they explain, “I didn’t want to lose Marieke, but I wanted to add Lucas.”
Van Dorst tells about his own journey with gender identity and the evolution to Raven. “I wish I had done it much earlier actually. Suddenly I feel okay to feel a little more feminine every now and then, when I’ve been kicking against that all my life.”
“Do you think you will ever find the perfect blend between Marieke and Lucas?”, Van Dorst asks Rijneveld. “Not perfect, but I think I’ll get close,” the author responds.
Eva Jinek
Van Dorst also has a candid conversation with Jinek. The talk show host talks about the relationship with her body.
“It’s annoying how much time you have to spend as a woman thinking about what your body looks like,” says Jinek. “But television is also about how you look, you have to be honest about that.”
“I can also present the talk show very cool undressed, but then you are looking at a large embryo and nobody wants that,” she concludes.
Caught in ambition
Despite this, she chooses this career with full conviction. Even on days of doubt. “Then I think: What am I doing this for, I can also milk goats all day long. But that lasts until I go back to work and then I go back to work.”
Van Dorst expresses Jinek’s motivation briefly but firmly: “You are trapped in ambition.”
