“Eva Green wins lawsuit against producers of sci-fi film ‘A Patriot’ and awarded $1 million”

After the failure of the science fiction movie A patriotchallenged the French actress Eva Green, known from the bond film Casino royaland in Sin City, the financiers White Lantern films and SMC Specialty Finance in court. According to her, they owed her a million dollar fee for her work. The judge agrees with her, despite a counter-complaint from the production houses. They accused Green of deliberately sabotaging the film.

“I didn’t have to do anything to make the film fail,” said Green, who was also a producer on the film. “They owe it to their own incompetence.” She cited in court that the initial $10.8 million budget was cut in half. According to her, that is ‘hopelessly insufficient’ to make that film.

According to White Lantern Films, Green’s obnoxious behavior made it impossible to work. According to them, she would have made unreasonable demands for the crew, the locations and the material. To reinforce that, they quoted Whatsapp messages in court in which Green had, among other things, called one of the producers ‘a fucking moron’ and described a few crew members as ‘shitty peasants’.

She herself said that ‘it was her French side’ that floated to the surface and that it was embarrassing that those messages were made public. According to her, the frustrations were born out of the concern that the quality of the film would be very poor. “In my 20 years of making movies, I’ve never failed to honor a contract or even missed a shooting day,” she said.

In the end, the judge acknowledged that Green had not committed a breach of contract and that the companies owed her the $1 million compensation. “I stood my ground and this time justice prevailed,” was Green’s response.
