EU’s Borrell Urges More Active Support for Ukraine Amid Russian Aggression

Top European Union diplomat Josep Borrell called for more active support for Ukraine due to the fact that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not inclined to stop full-scale aggression in the near future.

Details: The diplomat stressed that the existence of the European Union is at stake in Ukraine, so attention must be paid to the danger “that comes from a great power” and that threatens European democracy.

“Putin decided to continue the war until final victory.

Good luck [России] depends on bringing as many people as possible onto the battlefield.

…And if we do not change course quickly, if we do not mobilize all our capabilities, this will allow Putin to win the war in Ukraine,” Borrell added.

The head of EU diplomacy explained that the Russian president cannot be satisfied with “a piece of Ukraine” and allow the rest of the territory to belong to the European Union. In addition, he expects that the US presidential elections will create a more favorable scenario for him.

“We must therefore prepare for a high-intensity conflict over a long period of time. Putin has decided to continue the war until final victory,” he added.

Borrell repeated that Putin was wrong in calculating the strength of his army, the strength of the Ukrainian resistance and the reaction of the Western world to his actions.

Russia has never been able to become a nation. It has always been an empire with a tsar, with the Soviets, and now with Putin. This is the constant of Russia, its political identity and, as a result, a threat to its neighbors – and especially to us,” the diplomat concluded .

Let us remind you: A few days ago Borrell already drew attention to danger of Russian victory against Ukraine for a European Union project.
