Eurythmics 40th Anniversary: The Eurythmics Songbook Tour and Annie Lennox’s Absence

Eurythmics’ most famous song, Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), celebrates its forty-year anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, Dave Stewart planned a tour of the British duo’s hits, which he called the Eurythmics Songbook. Instead of the sixty-eight-year-old Lennox, who is considered one of the greatest singers in music history, three other singers will take turns on the stage.

“I’m looking forward to this tour, I love playing our songs,” Stewart wrote on social media. “I spent thousands of hours creating them in the studio and had the best partner in Annie. But now she’s said she’s not going on tour anymore, which I totally understand. But I love our songs and playing live, so I chose great musicians and three great singers. I promise a great show full of unforgettable songs.”

For now, it is known that Stewart will perform on November 7 at the opening concert in Switzerland. More information will follow.

Although the group has not existed since 2005, it returned to the scene a few times on special occasions. For example, to raise funds for the victims of the rainforest fires at a concert in New York in 2019 or at a memorial concert for the Beatles in Los Angeles in 2014.

The last time Lennox and Stewart performed together was less than a year ago in Los Angeles, when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and performed the songs Would I Lie to You?, Missionary Man and Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) at the ceremony.

They completed their last full-fledged tour in 1999 while promoting their last full-length album, Peace.
