Israel is in danger of being excluded from the Eurovision competition according to the latest developments.
The 68th will be held in May in Malmö, Swedeno Eurovision Song Contest after last year’s winner with the song ‘Tattoo’ managed to collect 583 points in the final held at the ‘M&S Bank Arena’ in Liverpool.
Last year things were difficult due to the Russia-Ukraine war with the chaos continuing into this year’s competition following Israel’s brutal attack on the Palestinians in Gaza.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which organizes the music event, is alarmed as according to Israeli media, the song chosen by Israel’s public television commission is “October Rain” and refers to the events of October 7, 2023.
It is impressive that a few days ago the same committee rejected the idea of excluding Israel’s participation, with the EBU’s general manager, Noel Keren, stating: “Comparisons between wars and conflicts are complex and difficult, and as a non-political media organization, it is not for us to make them».
These statements caused the anger of a large portion of the fans. This has resulted in many demanding that the EBU exclude Israel from Eurovision 2024.
According to news website Ynet, the EBU is now considering banning the song submitted as Eden Golan’s entry, as it contains political messages.
Since the piece is political, according to EBU regulations, it cannot participate.
After the latest developments, Israel’s public television decided that they are not going to change the lyrics of the song, nor choose another track, and that they prefer not to participate in Eurovision.
According to Israeli media, the song, October Rain, has English lyrics, except for two phrases in Hebrew, and refers to the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
