37 countries will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest next year. Israel will be there again despite the war with Hamas, organizer EBU announced on Tuesday.
The number of countries could increase to 38. The participation of Romania, which was also present last year, has not yet been officially confirmed. There are many conversations going on.
Luxembourg is a special participant: the Duchy is participating for the first time since 1993. Russia is not welcome for the third year in a row because of the war in Ukraine.
The EBU further confirms Australia’s participation. The country had a special agreement until this year, but can participate again in 2024.
Of the 37 countries, 31, including the Netherlands, may participate in the semi-finals. The so-called ‘Big Five’ – France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and Spain – and host country Sweden are already assured of a place in the final.
The 68th Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Malmö from May 7 to 11.
