“Eurovision Song Contest 2021: The Battle of Northern Heavyweights – Sweden vs. Finland”

The “Eurovision” song contest always comes with its own adventures, experiences, predictions and surprises, but this year it is clear that two northern heavyweights will fight for victory, and they will clarify their relationship in the most humane way – in a song duel. In the final of the hockey championship, these countries have met four times, in floorball – 14 times, but in “Eurovision” they will really compete for victory for the first time.

If Sweden’s presence on the top shelves of the “Eurovision” results is as self-evident as Ivo Fomin’s visit to the “Music Bank” final, then Finland joining the leader’s circle is rare enough for us to claim that “Lordi” was the only notable case in our lifetime.

Looking at both songs, it becomes clear that this is probably the most impressive duel in the history of pop music – Sweden is represented by Lorina, one of the icons of this competition. Arrived with a pop music diamond polished to the last detail, which has been circulating among radio stations all over Europe for quite some time now. The song is performed perfectly, there is really nowhere to get stuck. A masterpiece by Swedish producers, an absolute model lesson in music mathematics, where we can accurately predict what will irritate our happiness receptors in the next second, to settle in our memory chambers and stay there for quite a long time.

The only thing that you can definitely relate to is the fragment of the song “В Плену” performed by the Ukrainian singer Oksana Stefanivna Gristaya, aka “Mika Newton”, created in 2005, in which it is clear even to the most sophisticated music connoisseur that the note progression is identical to the audible progression of Lorina’s song .Is the melody identical? Yes. Can the Swedes be disqualified? No. However, the Ukrainian sings an octave higher, so the “Eurovision” regulations on plagiarism do not apply to this case. To be fair, the melody heard in the Swedish song is so primitive that we can probably find it in almost any free music directory.

In the other corner of the ring stands the untamed Kaerija, who represents the world of surprise and unpredictability. In it, much less attention is paid to the quality of the performance of the song, and the entire budget is devoted to an absolute party. The dancers fly on the stage as if they have just stepped out of the show “Dancing with the Stars” and complement their appearance with exaggerated movements, unnatural smiles and a very scary look. Such an unusual performance, it seems, has not been seen since 2019’s appearance of Icelanders “Hatari”, which shocked Europe no joke. The Finnish rapper is the absolute opposite of the polished Swede and literally attracts all the alternative-minded Eurovision fans with his humor.

Do any of us understand the lyrics? No. Do we all understand what the song is about? Yes. This is another example that a song does not have to be in English to capture the hearts of Europeans. The message doesn’t have to be melodically accurate to win the audience vote, but the judges will certainly have something to say about this, as a great show is not enough to win the competition. Most likely, the Finnish rapper will give way to the experienced Swedish icon, but millions around the world believe in a surprise.

This fight would not come to the fore if Ukraine chose a song as its representative this year, which somewhat highlights the roots of the Ukrainian people and current events. I’m sorry, but “Heart of steel” is an insanely inappropriate song for this situation. With anything even a millimeter more nationalistic, Ukraine would definitely once again capture the votes of all Europe and remind them why this competition is taking place at all. At the moment, we are facing a very ungrateful situation – Ukraine will most likely not win this competition and it will be a very strong knock on the conscience of Europe.

The world of “Eurovision” is currently divided into two parts: one saint believes in the resurrection of Lorin and the victory of mathematical pop music, while the other part represents the crazy and unpredictable Finnish guy.

This duel is now the most positive possible example of the dark fighting the light. Everyone can choose which side they want to stand on. One thing is absolutely certain – the next “Eurovision” will be held in one of the cities of Sweden or Finland.
