Aran is already completely ready for the Eurovision song contest, which starts on May 9, and is therefore at Eurovision in Concert last weekend – where 28 of the 37 countries perform. According to Aran, the atmosphere is friendly and everyone enjoys a beer. Until the Netherlands rises…
“You felt a kind of cramp,” Aran describes the moment. “People took their mobile phones out of their pockets, the room became a bit quieter – it’s not a party number – and then the atmosphere turned around as far as I’m concerned. Fans want, of course, and hope, that it goes well. And you noticed that evening it was that there were two people on stage that we all thought: they are not happy.”
According to Aran, every year there are songs that are less good live, but according to him there is ‘more going on’ with Mia and Dion this year.
Aran also responds to fierce reactions and the criticism the duo receive after the two bad performances. Although the Eurovision expert agrees that we can all be a bit nicer, he also thinks we should not forget that Mia and Dion themselves said ‘yes’ to the adventure. “They know – I hope – from what Duncan has told them what to expect. And the criticism, as AVROTROS itself says, is justified. If it is not good, I think, as a fan of the Eurovision song contest, we should denounce.”
