Dutch artist Joost Klein will not compete in the Grand Final of this year’s Song Contest Eurovisionas announced a few hours before the final by the organizing authority EBU.
According to the EBU, Swedish police investigated a complaint made by a female member of the production crew following an incident following his performance in Thursday night’s Semi-Final. While the legal process is taking its course, it would not be appropriate to continue in the Competition, the EBU notes.
The organizing authority once again tried to disassociate developments in the event with the position it has taken in favor of Israel’s participation despite the escalating massacre of civilians in the Gaza Strip by the IDF and the Netanyahu government. The EBU’s “zero tolerance” runs out in a possible argument but does not include the slaughter of women and children….
He specifically emphasized:
“We would like to make it clear that, contrary to some media reports and social media speculation, this incident did not involve any other performers or members of the delegation.
We maintain a zero tolerance policy for inappropriate behavior at our event and are committed to providing a safe and secure work environment for all Contest staff. In this light, Joost Klein’s behavior towards a member of the team is considered to be in violation of the rules of the Competition.
The Grand Final of the 68th Eurovision Song Contest will now go ahead with 25 songs taking part.”
