Eurovision 2022. Voting results. Who won?

Eurovision 2022 has gone down in history. The Kalush Orchestra from Ukraine was the winner of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. Great Britain came second. The Pole took 12th place.

Grand final Eurovision 2022 is behind us. This year’s edition of the Eurovision Song Contest – the largest competition musical in the world – took place in Italy, after the Maneskin group won in Rotterdam in 2021. The event was organized at the PalaOlimpico in Turin, where 13,000 spectators gathered.

The Ukrainian team won only after counting the votes of viewers and users of the voting application, scoring 631 points. After the jury vote, the first place was taken by Sam Ryder, representing Great Britain, with 283 points.

The Kalush Orchestra group brought Ukraine the third victory in Eurovision. Earlier winners were Ruslana in 2004 with the song “Wild Dances” and Jamal in 2016, who took the heart with the song “1944”. The hip-hop band, which draws from the musical traditions of Ukraine, performed the song “Stefania”. The song is an ode to the mother of Oleh Psijuk – the group’s leader. After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, “Stefania” has become the favorite song of mothers whose children have to fight the invader.

The team’s victory was commented on by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. “We impress the world with courage, our music conquers Europe! Next year Ukraine will host the Eurovision Song Contest! This is the third time. And I believe that it will not be the last. We will make every effort to host Eurovision in Mariupol, Ukraine. In a free, peaceful and rebuilt. Thank you for a win for the Kalush Orchestra and everyone who voted for them, “wrote Zelensky.

Eurovision – a short story

The Eurovision Song Contest has been organized since 1956 by the European Broadcasting Network, and its formula is inspired by the oldest European song festival, the San Remo festival. Since then, only one edition of the competition has not taken place – in 2020, due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the EBU canceled the competition, which was to take place in the Netherlands.

Every year, the final is broadcast to many countries on all continents. And according to official estimates, the competition attracts up to 600 million viewers. Interestingly, in 2015, during the 60th edition of the competition, the Australian team took part as a full participant. It was the first time that a country that is not an active member of the EBU could participate in Eurovision.

This year, 41 national teams were originally scheduled to take part, but on February 25 – a day after the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine – the EBU excluded Russia from the competition. Representatives of 17 countries performed in the first semi-final, and 18 in the second.
