This Saturday, May 14, 2022, Turin (Italy) hosted the grand finale of 66th Eurovision Song Contest. 25 countries followed one another on the huge stage set up in the heart of the Pala Olimpico. The event, marred by many unforeseen events during rehearsals both during the first semi-final and during the second, finally crowned l’Ukraine.

Victory attended by the group Kalush Orchestra

After four hours of show, Ukraine lifted the trophy thanks to the 631 points collected. The country, in a very good position according to the bookmakers, was represented by the Kalush Orchestra group with the song “Stefania”.

With 439 points from the public and 12 from the professional jury, Ukraine broke a record and it was impossible to catch up with them in the standings. This is the third victory of this country at Eurovision after 2004 and 2016.

Élodie Gossuin, presenter of the junior competition organized in Paris in December 2021, revealed the verdict of the French professional jury. The latter awarded 12 points to the United Kingdom, 10 points to Ukraine, 8 points to Poland, 7 points to Armenia, 6 points to Belgium, 5 points to Spain, 4 points to the Netherlands , 3 points to Greece, 2 points to the Czech Republic and 1 point to Portugal.

44 years without a victory for France

Last year, Barbara Pravi was very close to dethroning Marie Myriam, the latest French winner to date. The Breton quartet Alvan & Ahez was not so lucky. The performers of “Fulenn”, who appeared on stage at 9:37 p.m., finished in 24th place. Just before the start of the competition, they were in 18th place in the ranking of chances of victory according to specialized betting sites.

France garnered 9 points from the professional juries. Armenia gave 7 points to the hexagon, Azerbaijan and Georgia added one point each. At the end of the count, France was 24th out of 25 in the professional ranking. The public then added 8 points, i.e. 17 points accumulated on the final table for Alvan & Ahez.

In 2023, the Eurovision Song Contest will not take place in Ukraine due to the conflict but alternative solutions have already been studied.
