Coquelles (France), December 14 (EFE/EPA).- (Image: Ángel Calvo/Teresa Suárez) The Eurotunnel is preparing to commemorate the 30th anniversary of its entry into service in May 1994 with an enormous margin for growth compared to the expectations that were generated from the beginning and with the persistent stigma of Brexit, which entails new security protocols. “We are opening a second chapter of our history,” said Yann Leriche, CEO of Getlink, the Eurotunnel concessionaire, this Thursday during a visit with the press to its facilities at the terminal in France, with the aim of highlighting its untapped potential. Leriche was at pains to emphasize that the tunnel “is more modern than ever” and offers “many opportunities that we are going to look for” in a “very favorable” context, marked in particular by the advantage that the train offers over other means of transport, like the road or the plane in the face of the need to decarbonize the economy.
