‘Eurostat’: Latvia among 12 EU member states with declining public debt

In Latvia, as in Bulgaria, government debt decreased by 0.8 percentage points year on year in the third quarter.

The sharpest declines over the period were in Cyprus (-6.4 percentage points), Ireland (-3.6 percentage points), the Netherlands (-2.5 percentage points) and Denmark (-2.4 percentage points).

Meanwhile, the largest increases were in Spain (+7.8 percentage points), Hungary (+6.5 percentage points), Malta (+5.7 percentage points) and Austria (+5.6 percentage points).

In Lithuania, general government debt decreased by 0.3 percentage points, while in Estonia it increased by 0.6 percentage points.

The average growth was 0.9 percentage points in the EU and 1.1 percentage points in the euro area.
