54 young professionals will be competing at the home European championship for professions in Graz from September 22nd to 26th
Vienna (OTS) – The 54 Austrian participants in the 7th EuroSkills 2021 European Professional Championship in Graz were officially adopted today, Wednesday, in the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKÖ).
This means that a record line-up will fight for medals at EuroSkills2021 – all nine federal states are represented in the largest team to date, Austria.
“Thank you for your commitment so far. You have overcome many hurdles – keyword Corona. Some even had to throw their career plans overboard in preparation. But one thing counts: you stuck with it. And that’s what counts if you want to get to the top, ”said WKÖ President Harald Mahrer, addressing the highly motivated Team Austria.
EuroSkills will be held for the first time in Austria from September 22nd to 26th. A total of around 450 participants from 31 countries will fight for the European Championship title in 48 competitions. In the six attempts at EuroSkills to date, the 197 Austrian specialists have achieved an unbelievable 111 medals. Team Austria was also sensationally on the road with 21 medals in Budapest 2018.
Schramböck: “Role model for many other countries”
“The dual training in Austria is a model for many other countries. The home European championships are an important figurehead in order to present the quality of this top training internationally and to draw attention to the importance of well-trained specialists. I am convinced that our participants will represent the state of Austria, the business location and our vocational training in an excellent way, ”said Margarete Schramböck, Federal Minister for Digitization and Business Location.
Faßmann: “Enjoy a unique time”
“The successes at EuroSkills and WorldSkills are great testimony to our education system, which is admired far beyond our borders. Just qualifying for participation in this competition is a great success, because only a very few manage it. There will be another great result for Austria this year, I’m sure of that. But the most important thing is to enjoy this unique time, ”says Heinz Faßmann, Federal Minister for Education, Science and Research.
Herk: “Necessary to master the challenges of the future”
“EuroSkills 2021 is much more than just a competition. To be able to hold this event in Graz is an honor for Austria. It will help to inspire young people for a career path via apprenticeship and for vocational training in general. And young, well-trained specialists are urgently needed in order to be able to master the challenges of the future ”, Josef Herk, President of the Styrian Chamber of Commerce and initiator of EuroSkills 2021 in Graz, is convinced.
Olympic medalist Bettina Plank: “Enjoy it and give it your all!”
As a special surprise and motivation, an athlete spurred the EuroSkills participants on who already has a medal in her pocket: Bettina Plank was able to sensationally prevail against colleagues from heavy weight classes and take bronze in karate at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Plank: “To be able to compete in an international event for Austria is something very special. In my career as an athlete, I have had this experience several times at World and European Championships, at European Games and, most recently, even at the Olympic Games. ”
She has a special tip ready for the young professionals: “Enjoy this time together as Team Austria! You will experience how unifying such a competition is, whether in victory or in defeat. The emotion, the devotion, this having-given-everything: That is what will be remembered. “

About EuroSkills
EuroSkills is a professional competition that is held every two years in the form of a European championship. The focus is on the top performance of young, highly talented specialists. The participants are young professionals aged up to 25 years either with a completed apprenticeship, a vocational school (BMHS) or a university of applied sciences. The competitions in the professional fields of industry, craft and service are contested by around 450 active participants from more than 30 countries.
The track record of the Austrian team is impressive: The red-white-red young professionals have proven with a total of 111 medals that they are rightly among the best in Europe.
