Euroradio Christmas Concert at “Latvija” Concert Hall – Live Broadcast and Performers

State Chamber Orchestra “Sinfonietta Rīga”, pianist Daumants Liepiņš and organist Liene Andreta Kalnciems under the direction of conductor Normunds Shne will perform compositions by Georg Fridrich Handel, Ferenc Liszt, Alfred Kalniņš and Rihards Dubras.

“Latvija” Concert Hall in cooperation with the European Broadcasting Union and Latvian Radio 3 “Klasika” will participate in Euroradio’s Christmas Day, which this year will be celebrated on the Fourth Advent, but concertgoers will have the opportunity to experience this unique event in person. The Euroradio Christmas concert will be broadcast in several member states of the European Broadcasting Union through the live broadcast of Latvian Radio 3 “Klasika”. Since 1995, the Euroradio Christmas Day concert has been one of the most beautiful events in Euroradio’s seasonal offer, and the live broadcasts of these concerts have a very wide audience in Europe, North America and elsewhere.

The joy of a new discoverer and an irresistible desire to look beyond the horizon of events characterizes the participants of the Euroradio Christmas concert – the State Chamber Orchestra “Sinfonietta Rīga”. Since the foundation of the orchestra in 2006, its artistic director and chief conductor has been Normunds Schne. The musicians of “Sinfonietta Rīga” are competent, erudite and creative artists, who passionately continue to explore the musical heritage of the Baroque and Viennese classicism, and keep updating the New Viennese School and other 20th century music for their listeners. directions of musical currents and styles, as well as looking for bright expressions in the world of contemporary music. In this concert, organist Liene Andreta Kalnciema and pianist Daumants Liepiņš will join the orchestra.

Liene Andreta Kalnciema is one of the brightest and most actively performing Latvian organists of her generation, who has won international recognition. The organist has given concerts and master classes in many European countries and Canada. She has also performed with the LNSO, the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra, the Music Academy Student Orchestra and the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra.

Daumants Liepiņš is the new, rising star of the world of piano music. In 2017, he received the Grand Music Award in the category “Young Artist of the Year”, one of the brightest musicians of Latvia, gained wide international recognition by winning several prestigious competitions. In addition to solo concerts in various parts of the world, he has performed with the most important orchestras of Great Britain, Denmark, Romania, Georgia, Spain and Latvia.

An important event of the concert will be the premiere of Rihardas Dubra’s new work for piano and orchestra. The concert will also feature George Frideric Handel’s Concerto for Organ and Chamber Orchestra in B flat major, op. 4 no. 6 and Concerto Grosso in Domažor from the oratorio “Alexander’s Feast” for orchestra, Alfred Kalniņš’s “Christmas Lullaby” with organ solo, as well as Ferenc Liszt’s “March of the Three Wise Men” and “Lighting the Christmas Tree” from the piano suite “Christmas Tree”.

An hour before the concert – at 15.00 – in the “Greenroom” room concertgoers are invited to participate in pre-concert talks with artists, which can be visited for free.

The concert is organized by SIA “Kurzeme Philharmonija”. Financial support Municipality of Ventspils state city. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket offices of the “Latvija” concert hall and the “Jūras vārti” theater house, as well as at all “Biļešu paradīze” sales points.
