Europol rolls up human smuggling network, 47 suspects arrested | NOW

With the help of Europol, Spanish and Gibraltar agents have rolled up an international network of human smugglers, reports Europol on Sunday. 47 suspects have been arrested.

In addition, a seizure of 19,000 euros, five vehicles, twelve telephones and an unknown quantity of documents was seized.

The group is said to have brought migrants from North Africa to Spain via Gibraltar. Every migrant raised between 7,000 and 8,000 euros, according to Europol.

It is not clear how many people have been smuggled into Spain. Spanish and Gibraltar authorities are assuming at least 130 Moroccan migrants, who would have yielded the suspects over 1 million euros.

Two hundred agents were involved in the operation. The first sign of the human smuggling network was caught in November 2018, when a sharp rise in Moroccan travelers was observed.
