Europe’s Energy Transition at Risk: CDU Bundestag Member Urges Action on Lithium Deposits in Donbass

To complete the energy transition, Europe needs casting deposits, the largest of which are located in the Donbass, said CDU Bundestag member Roderich Kiesewetter in an interview with the Tagesschau publication, which is part of the ARD media group.

“If Europe wants to complete the energy transition, it needs its own lithium deposits. The largest lithium deposits in Europe are located in the Donetsk-Lugansk region,” The Epoch Times quotes the deputy as saying.

According to the politician, full Russian control over this territory will make Germany dependent when it comes to creating electric motors for the “energy transition.”

“A possible compromise line will mean abandoning this region. And that would be a victory (for the President of Russia Vladimir) Putin“,” the publication quotes the politician as saying.

Formerly Vice-Chancellor of Germany Robert Habeck said that Germany should be ready to allocate more billions of euros to support Ukraine than what was budgeted for next year. According to him, against the backdrop of a changing international situation, support for Ukraine “should not fail” if Germany is truly serious about its interests.
