Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – European countries are now under threat energy crisis. After the Netherlands, Germany and Austria, this time the “shout” came from Denmark.
The energy agency even gave it an “early warning” status due to gas supply concerns due to uncertainty over energy imports from Russia due to the war with Ukraine. European Union (EU) countries provide three levels of crisis warning, starting with “early warning”, then “alert”, and the highest “emergency”.
“This is a serious situation that we face and is exacerbated by reduced supply,” said Deputy Director of the Danish Energy Agency, Martin Hansen, when announcing the warning, Monday (20/6/2022) local time quoted AFP.
The announcement came after Danish energy company Orsted announced deliveries of Russian gas to the Scandinavian country would be suspended from June 1. Orsted has refused to settle payments in rubles, the “weapon” of President Vladimir Putin’s government on western countries that have sanctioned him for the attack on Ukraine.
Russia itself is one of the main sources of Denmark’s gas imports. Gas represents 18% of the energy consumed by citizens each year in Denmark.
Denmark’s domestic production actually accounts for 3/4 of gas consumption. Meanwhile, currently, Denmark’s gas stock is around 75%.
Last weekend, the Netherlands had announced a return to new coal plants (PLTU) due to the energy crisis. Germany and Australia also took similar decisions Monday.
