Ukraine is also an important partner for grain imports for China. China itself does not have enough agricultural land and therefore often moves its food production to other countries. China has the largest share of foreign agricultural land in Ukraine. Due to the war in Ukraine, that supply of grain is now completely lost.
China has similar, often smaller, agricultural areas in many other countries. So the Chinese will not experience many problems. In addition, the Chinese government decided to revive the grain trade with Russia. On the day of the invasion of Ukraine, trade restrictions between Russia and China were lifted. In this way the regime secures its food supply, it does undermine the sanctions that were taken by the West.
