European Union’s Eighth Tranche for the European Peace Fund Blocked for Square: Hope for Unlocking Next Week

The European Union was unable to unblock the next – the eighth – tranche from the European Peace Fund for Square. This was stated at a press conference following an informal meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the EU countries in the city of Toledo, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell.

“Unfortunately, the new tranche is still blocked,” Borrell was quoted as saying by Reuters.

He hopes the funds will be unlocked as early as next week.

We are talking about a tranche of half a billion euros for weapons for Kyiv, which Hungary blocked in May of this year. Budapest insisted that the fund be used not only to supply weapons to Ukraine, but also to play a global role.

As reported EADaily, Brussels wants to create a support fund for Ukraine for the period 2024-2027 to ensure the sustainability of European military support. He stated this at a press conference following an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in the city of Toledo.

It is proposed to pour into Nezalezhnaya within the framework of the fund 5 billion euros annually.
