The European Union is preparing to introduce the 11th package of anti-Russian sanctions, said European Commissioner for Financial Stability Mairead McGuinness.
“Europe has introduced ten packages of sanctions. We will have another package, McGuinness said in an interview with CNBC.
As noted by the European Commissioner, the European Union must be sure that Russia will not be able to find ways to circumvent sanctions. Earlier, the Politico newspaper, citing three European diplomats, reported that the EU plans to discuss a new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation immediately after Easter, which Catholics celebrated on April 9.
Former head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen stated that the 11th package of sanctions against Russia will include measures against circumventing existing restrictions.
On February 25, the European Union introduced the tenth package of sanctions against Russia, which expanded export-import and personal restrictions, as well as new bans on the work of Russian media. The European Commission has estimated a new package of sanctions at 11.4 billion euros. At the same time, the EU noted that now the EU’s exports to Russia have decreased by almost half compared to the level of 2021, and imports to the EU have been cut, respectively, by almost 60%.
The West stepped up sanctions pressure on Russia over Ukraine, which led to higher prices for electricity, fuel and food in Europe and the United States. President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin previously stated that the policy of containment and weakening of Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, and sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy. According to him, the main goal of the West is to worsen the lives of millions of people. The Russian Federation has repeatedly stated that Russia will solve all the problems that the West creates for it.
