“As we have seen in the past, the longer the conversations, the weaker the packets become. It’s the same here. I hope that it will be adopted in some form, however, it seems that the negotiations are still taking shape. It will not be a giant step forward, more patching of holes,” Landsbergis told Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT before the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels.
According to him, the 12th sanctions package lacks restrictions on Belarus.
“I am a little disappointed that Belarus is not included, because we have not agreed on it yet. I’ll bring it up today so we don’t forget it when the time comes for Pack 13. We are moving forward by meters, not miles,” Landsbergis admitted.
In June, the EU adopted the 11th sanctions package related to Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine with the aim of reducing sanctions evasion.
In it, the bloc imposed restrictions on another 87 legal entities that directly support Russia’s military-industrial complex, as well as tighter restrictions on dual-use goods and advanced technologies.
In mid-October, Poland submitted a proposal to the European Commission for the 12th sanctions package, which includes restrictions on Russia’s diamond sector and a wide range of private and legal entities.
Poland also proposed to ban the import of liquefied natural gas from Russia and the use of Russian information and communication technology services.
