European Union Approves Johnson & Johnson Use of Covid Vaccine

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Drug regulatory agency European Union agree to use coronavirus vaccine one shot Johnson & Johnson on this Thursday (11/3). It will be the fourth vaccine approval granted by the 27-member bloc authorities.

This is because they previously approved three vaccines, Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca-Oxford. In addition, they are also reviewing approval for Russia’s Novavax, CureVac and Sputnik vaccines.

The EU decision also gives new hope for the implementation of the corona vaccination program in the area, which is still slow.

“With this latest positive opinion, authorities across the European Union will have other options to combat the pandemic and protect the lives and health of their citizens,” said the head of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) Emer Cooke in a statement. 3).

“This is the first vaccine that can be used as a single dose,” they added.

US pharmaceutical giant J&J submitted approval for the use of their vaccine since February 16. The vaccine was developed by their subsidiary in Belgium, Janssen.

Apart from being the first vaccine that only needs to be injected once, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine has the advantage of being easier to store.

However, their vaccine injection is considered less protective than the products produced by Pfizer and Moderna. The reason is, both of them have about 95 percent efficacy against all forms of Covid-19 from the classic coronavirus type.
