In addition to our country, this includes Austria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden and Norway. The group purchase will not only serve to supply Ukraine with ammunition, but should also replenish its own stocks in the longer term.
Ukraine is in urgent need of fresh ammunition. This mainly concerns 155-millimeter artillery shells. The European countries are committed to supplying 1 million such grenades within a year. But it remains to be seen whether that will succeed.
Not all details of the European agreement have been worked out yet, but Borrell calls it a “great success” anyway. He hopes that the 10 other EU countries will join in the near future.
The Ukrainian government is also pleased. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuliba thanks EU countries for this “pioneering delivery”. “This is exactly what we need.”
