In the quarter-finals, the Georgians will face the Czech team if Jan Suchopárek’s men get at least a point in the match against Israel on Wednesday. The first known pair in the playoffs is England – Portugal.
In front of a record attendance of 43,000 spectators in Tbilisi, Davitashvili gave the home team the lead in the 42nd minute, who brilliantly went through the entire Dutch defense and opened the scoring. Although the opponent equalized in the first half, the result was only the third Dutch draw in the championship.
In previous matches, Georgians beat Portugal 2-0 and drew 2-2 with Belgium. Defending silver medalists Portugal secured their place with a 2-1 win over Belgium. The Dutch finished third in the group and will not follow up on the semi-final participation in 2021.
Group B was won by the Spanish by a score ahead of Ukraine, with whom they ended up drawing 2-2 thanks to Ruiz’s last-minute goal. Group D winners avoid France in the quarter-finals.
