Jakarta –
The Football Supporters’ Association (FSA), as the supporters’ union in England and Wales, criticized the plan to revive the idea European Super League (European Super League). According to them, what is ‘already dead’ does not need to ‘live again’.
When ESL was first announced in 2021, fans in England immediately rejected it completely, especially after learning that six Premier League teams had entered as initiators, namely Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
The huge wave of rejection made the six teams choose to withdraw from ESL, instantly making the competition ‘dead’, but not completely dead. Because there are still three clubs that continue to fight for this idea, namely Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
After disappearing for almost two years, the idea of ESL has resurfaced, this time with new management and a new format. There will be 60-80 clubs participating, with more matches than the current Champions League.
The FSA has condemned the move. ESL is considered to be like a zombie who keeps trying to disrupt the stability of European football at this time.
“The walking corpses called the European Super League are moving again, with self-awareness like a zombie,” said FSA CEO Kevin Miles in an official statement.
“Their latest idea is to have an ‘open competition’, not like the exclusive league they used to offer and received big protests from the fans. It is clear that an open competition for Europe’s top clubs already exists, it’s called the Champions League.”
“They say ‘dialogue with supporters and supporter groups is very important’, but the European Zombie League continues to run, and blatantly ignores the protests issued by supporters from all over Europe,” explained Miles.
