EU stock markets at highs mid-session
Positive morning for European stock markets, which monitor the evolution of the war in the Middle East and await the Fed’s decision on interest rates, scheduled for Wednesday. Investors are also keeping an eye on the continuation of the quarterly reporting season on both sides of the Atlantic. In the middle of the day, the FTSE MIB on the business market reached its highs and gained 1%. In the rest of the old continent, Frankfurt rose by 0.73%, Paris by 0.79%, London by 0.71% and Amsterdam by 0.69%. Among the main Milanese stocks, Amplifon reversed course and dropped 2.37% after the publication of the quarterly report.
Mediobanca rose by 3.09% after the list of the outgoing board of directors prevailed in the assembly vote on Saturday for the renewal of the top management. Campari is recovering (+2.9%) and purchases are also supporting Prysmian (+2.63%) and Saipem (+2.31%). Finecobank (-0.18%) and cnh industrial (-0.19%) were instead weak. In the spotlight Stellantis (+0.02%), which has reached preliminary agreements with the unions for the renewal of the employment contract in the USA and Canada. On the euro currency market, strengthening against the other main currencies: the single currency is worth 1.0596 dollars from 1.0590 at the close on Friday and 158.65 yen (from 158.08 on Friday), while the dollar/yen ratio is at 149, 74 (from 149.49). The price of oil is falling with the December future on the WTI down 1.31% to 84.42 dollars a barrel and the similar delivery on Brent falling by 1.12% to 89.47 dollars. The price of natural gas on the TTF platform in Amsterdam increased by 3.4% to 52.3 euros per megawatt hour. Gold, which on Friday had exceeded 2 thousand dollars an ounce for the first time since May after the start of Israel’s ground offensive, slows down: spot delivery drops 0.5% to 1,996.97 dollars.
