European states, including the Czech Republic, supplied weapons to Russia despite the embargo

France and Germany supplied Russia for 274 million euros (6.7 billion CZK) in arms between 2015 and 2020, and the Czech Republic for 14.3 million euros (349 million CZK), the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph wrote on Saturday.

According to the daily, which refers to the European Union’s analysis, it is likely that Russia, including bombs and missiles, is using weapons in the current military aggression against Ukraine.

The EU adopted an arms embargo following the Russian annexation of Ukrainian Crimea in 2014. However, gaps in the measures allowed at least ten member states to export weapons worth almost 350 million euros (CZK 8.5 billion) to Russia between 2015 and 2020. The gaps in the embargo were not removed until this year, when Russia invaded Ukraine.

The largest arms exporters to Russia over the six-year period were France (€ 152 million), followed by Germany (€ 121.8 million), Italy (€ 22.4 million), Austria (€ 18.5 million) and Bulgaria (€ 16.5 million). eur). The Czechia was in sixth place.

According to the British newspaper, Berlin took advantage of the fact that the embargo allowed the export of dual-use equipment to Russia, ie those that can be used both militarily and for civilian purposes. At the same time, Moscow undertook to use it only for civilian purposes. France then took the opportunity to fulfill the contracts negotiated before 2014.

Last year, at a time when Russia was already preparing for war with Ukraine, EU countries supplied Moscow with weapons worth 39 million euros (951 million CZK).
