Astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti from the European Space Agency (ESA) has been awarded the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) President’s Award for her exceptional contribution to the IOF’s public awareness campaign, Lift Off for Bone Health. The prestigious award was presented during the opening ceremony of the World Congress on Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases in Barcelona on May 4, 2023. The award recognizes Cristoforetti’s collaboration and outstanding support for the campaign, which has already reached more than three million people and has been viewed almost two million times. By participating in the campaign, Cristoforetti has helped the IOF to reach a global audience, especially younger people, and particularly women as they approach menopause. Thanks to her contributions and the impact of the messages and videos, the campaign will continue to be shared through the IOF website and YouTube channels for many years to come.
