European Solidarity: SBU Ban on Petro Poroshenko Travel Abroad Harms Ukrainian Unity and European Integration

European Solidarity stated that the ban on MP and fifth President Petro Poroshenko traveling abroad is an attack on internal political unity in Ukraine and harms European integration.

Literally: “The paradox of the official explanations of the SBU is that the fifth president of Ukraine, oddly enough, was not released to Hungary, but in fact was not released to Washington. With one ridiculous decision, they hit both sides at once – both Budapest and Washington were spat on hit.

In this regard, we repeat: such actions are certainly an attack on internal political unity in Ukraine. And most importantly, they are openly harmful to our European integration.

Our partners should not see that our foreign policy is led not by diplomats, but by intelligence services, as the FSB does in Russia. According to the law, the sphere of responsibility of the SBU is counterintelligence within the country and the fight against terrorism.”

Details: The party said that “they are openly surprised by the authorities’ attempts to justify the actual disruption of opposition leader Petro Poroshenko’s visit to Washington with counterintelligence information from the SBU” about the likelihood of Poroshenko’s meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and the theoretical use of the conversation by Russian intelligence services.

They note that from December 1 to December 8, Poroshenko had planned visits to only two countries: Poland and the United States. The party called the SBU report false.

“It is symbolic that the United States did not release not only Poroshenko, who is allegedly being protected from being used by the Russian IPSO, but also all the deputies of European Solidarity, who received an invitation to the Forum of the International Democratic Union, as well as to meetings in the Pentagon, Congress, and the US State Department. The authorities have not yet figured out how to justify these refusals, and the inventions of the SBU do not provide an answer to this question,” the message says.

Literally: “With their ridiculous actions and public explanations, those who planned this special operation against the leader of European Solidarity are actually playing along with the enemy, dispersing precisely the Russian IPSO that they so desperately “fought.” Petro Poroshenko’s position remains unchanged: after February 24 and the atrocities in Ukraine there can be no talk of negotiations with Putin’s Russia.

At the same time, we really want to ask: after such statements by the SBU, what will they think in Budapest? How will these actions of the SBU, prompted from above, affect relations between Ukraine and Hungary? Who benefits from creating artificial additional tension with a country that will soon also vote on the start of negotiations between Ukraine and the EU in Brussels?”

More details: The party added that, following the logic of the SBU, the President of the European Council Charles Michel, who recently visited Budapest to discuss unblocking the issue of opening pre-entry negotiations between Ukraine and the EU, as well as President Vladimir Zelensky, who invites Orban to Ukraine.

They also believe that “all Ukrainian politicians, first of all, need to work in the capitals of those countries where there are problems in bilateral relations, as we did to obtain visa-free travel.”

Background:

Poroshenko said that border guards did not allow him to go on a business trip abroad, to Poland and the United States, and called this “anti-Ukrainian sabotage.” The border guards noted that they refused to allow Poroshenko to leave due to the fact that his business trip was canceled by the Verkhovna Rada. First Deputy Speaker Alexander Kornienko says he canceled Poroshenko’s international business trip after receiving a letter marked “For official use”, the contents of which he cannot disclose. The SBU stated that Poroshenko allegedly planned a meeting with the pro-Russian Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban, and the Russian Federation planned to use this in its IPSO against Ukraine.
