In Europe, unfortunately, the floodgates of meat from various third countries have been opened too much. And it became apparent almost immediately how big a problem it could cause. As soon as there are no really strict controls, it is immediately bad. Currently, we are under the onslaught of really well-crawled meat that is spreading across the continent.
Seizures in the Czech Republic
But everything needs to be put into context and the bigger picture. In the Czech Republic, there was already a debate a few months ago about whether it is appropriate to import meat from Ukraine. Farmers in particular were against it, when representatives of the Agrarian Chamber and other organizations associating, for example, poultry farmers, warned that while they always meet the most demanding requirements, in this and other countries this might not be the case. We could easily bring meat to the market that would be very bad.
However, many have waved their hands condescendingly at these warnings, saying that food companies are only trying to protect their market and margins. It is true that such chickens from Ukraine are significantly cheaper. And it’s a huge attraction for retail chains. The meat looks the same, even if you sell it to customers a little cheaper, you will earn more. At the same time, few people think about where the meat comes from.
But it was soon to be proven who was right. There have already been at least five proven cases of salmonella in chicken meat in the Czech Republic this year. In none of these cases was meat from domestic farms, but in all of them, on the contrary, from Ukraine. In addition, another concern of food manufacturers was confirmed, namely that this meat arrived on our market already repackaged in another country, either in Slovakia or Poland. Importers and sellers thus try to mask the real country of origin.

It’s everywhere now
Now, however, a wave of salmonella is sweeping across Europe. of cases are according to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) already hundreds, with the number increasing rapidly. At least one death in this connection is also recorded.
The source of the infection has still not been found, so it is not known exactly which countries it is from and whether it is no longer on the market. Therefore, it is difficult to express any suspicions, but even after the experience in the Czech Republic, many will surely get a picture of what is going on here.

In addition, cases have broken out practically all over Europe. Countries such as Germany, France, Austria, Poland, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands or Norway are affected. This is really extremely serious and something should be done about it or it will get worse.
