After two wins at the start, Turkey got off to a great start again when Kenan Karaman took the lead after just two minutes. After Hakan Çalhanoğlu 2-0, Roberts Savaļnieks scored the next goal shortly afterwards. When Burak Yılmaz scored the 3-1 penalty after the break, the game seemed to be over, but Roberts Uldriķis and Dāvis Ikaunieks secured the Latvians the first point of the current qualification.

The guests held each other harmless for 62 minutes, then the substitutes Ivan Perišić, Luka Modrić and Josip Brekalo met to an ultimately safe victory.
