European Qualifiers: DFB-Elf strong as a bear - Switzerland fails

Germany is still on course under Hansi Flick, European champions Italy and Spain showed no weakness on Wednesday either. England received an annoying goal shortly before the end.

Flick keep flawless
Germany’s new coach Hansi Flick celebrated his third win in a row in Iceland without conceding a goal. Serge Gnabry, Antonio Rüdiger, Leroy Sané and Timo Werner scored the goals for the DFB-Elf, which Group J now leads with four points.

Big win for Italy
Italy have been unbeaten in 37 games after beating Lithuania 5-0. Moise Kean scored twice, Giacomo Raspadori and Giovanni Di Lorenzo were also successful. Edgaras Utkus also made an own goal.

Poland annoys England
Damian Szymański scored his first international goal for Poland in stoppage time and ended England’s perfect start in Group I. Szymański headed in a cross from Robert Lewandowski. Harry Kane had given the guests the lead with a 30-meter hammer.

Spain is getting in shape
Pablo Fornals, on his starting XI debut, and Ferran Torres gave Spain an important victory in Group B.

Aside from that…
Dennis Praet’s goal was enough for Belgium against Belraus, giving the Red Devils a nine point lead in Group E when Wales failed against Estonia. Sweden is back on the ground after beating Spain and lost to Greece in Athens. In addition, goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell saved his Northern Irish from a goalless draw with a saved penalty against Switzerland.

Majestic orange
Memphis Depay scored its first international three-pack in the Netherlands’ 6-1 triumph over Turkey. Davy Klaassen put the Orange in the lead after 54 seconds and Çağlar Söyüncü saw yellow-red shortly before the break. Guus Til and Donyell Malen scored late before Cengiz Ünder scored the consolation goal. It is Turkey’s biggest defeat in World Cup qualification since an 8-0 defeat by England in 1984.

Denmark is the only team to have six wins from six games. Erling Haaland scored a three-pack in Norway’s clear win and Portugal had no trouble beating Azerbaijan even without Cristiano Ronaldo. Austria had to admit defeat to Scotland, which has now moved up to second place in the table.
