European Parliament Vice-President Eva Kaili has been arrested for corruption cases

Jakarta

Vice-President of the European Parliament, Eva Kaili caught. Kaili was arrested in Brussels on Friday evening local time.

“Belgian police arrested Greek socialist MEP Eva Kaili, one of the vice-presidents of the European Parliament, in Brussels on Friday evening,” a source familiar with the case said, as reported by AFP on Saturday (12/10/2022).

Kaili’s arrest is linked to an investigation into a corruption case. The corruption case involved Qatar and four suspects who were arrested.

“The arrests, in connection with a corruption investigation involving World Cup host Qatar, follow the detention of four more suspects early Friday, the sources said.

Kaili is the partner of one of four previously arrested people detained for questioning by the police. Belgian federal prosecutors announced earlier arrests after €600,000 in cash was found when police raided 16 address raids in the capital Brussels.

Prosecutors did not identify the suspects or name the country involved, saying only that it was a “Gulf” country.

However, a source close to the case confirmed press reports that he was focused on Qatar’s alleged attempts to undermine an Italian socialist who served as a member of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2019.
