Chapter The European Parliament David Sassoli urged to accelerate the European integration of the Western Balkans. So he spoke in favor of the enlargement of the European Union.
According to him, this will be a positive factor for peace and prosperity. The European official’s statement quoted Radio Liberty.
“Enlargement can bring great benefits to both the region and Europe as a whole, helping to ensure a stable, prosperous and peaceful continent,” Sassoli said.
At the same time, he stressed that how quickly the countries of the Western Balkans can become part of the EU depends on how successfully the reforms necessary for European integration are implemented.
“Reforms still need to be completed in each of these countries,” said the head of the EP, adding that the European Union must also keep its promises and recognize progress.
Recall: Serbia and Montenegro, with which the European Union is currently negotiating European integration, as well as Albania and North Macedonia, which are officially considered candidates for EU membership, are included in the Western Balkans.
In addition, the Western Balkan region includes Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo, which are also considered as potential candidates for membership in the European Union.
Note: On February 10, Prime Minister Denis Shmygal met with President of the European Parliament David Sassoli in Brussels. He stated that Ukraine in 2021 expects to start a comprehensive review of the achievement of the goals of the Agreement on associations for deepening sectoral integration with the EU.
