European Open: Hugo Gaston upsets top seed Alex De Minaur to reach semi-finals

The Frenchman took control of the match, using his amazing and unapologetic tennis in the first set. With a few shots that are his secret, he won four games in a row after giving up his original bet and then took the set.

Alex De Minaur found his bearings in the second set. He was happy to convert the only break point of the set and his opponent was there to restore parity.

While the final set seemed to be heading towards a decisive tie-break, the Australian was overwhelmed by Gaston, with his winning game, who took away the first victory of his career in against a player in the top 10 in the world thanks to a break in the last game.

In the semi-finals, Hugo Gaston will meet the Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut. The 60th in the world, aged 36, dealt with the Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime (ATP 21/N.3) in the quarterfinals earlier in the evening, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (8/6). The 24-year-old Frenchman will play the third semi-final of his career on the ATP tour. He won the first two before losing in the final, in Gstaad in 2021 and Kitzbuhel in 2024.

Later in the evening, Zizou Bergs (ATP 69) will play his quarter-final against American Marcos Giron (ATP 47) in this tournament with 690,135 euros.
