European Officials Express Concern for Humanitarian Situation in Gaza at Cairo Peace Summit

On Saturday, during the Cairo Peace Summit, European officials called for concern for the “humanitarian situation” in Gaza.

Britain

British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said that he spoke with the Israeli government about what it must do in accordance with international law, preserve the lives of civilians in Gaza, and the need for its army to exercise restraint.

He continued: “We also made clear that we must work and they must work to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinians in Gaza, and that their actions must be consistent with international law.”

He stated: “Despite the very difficult circumstances, I called on the Israeli army to exercise discipline, professionalism and self-restraint.”

France

For her part, French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna said that there is a need to establish a humanitarian corridor to deliver aid to civilians in the Gaza Strip and that it may lead to a ceasefire.

Germany

Meanwhile, the German Foreign Minister said that the fight against Hamas must be carried out with the utmost concern for the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Italy

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said that the international community must prevent the escalation of the war between Israel and Hamas and develop a road map for a two-state solution.

Greece

During the same summit, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed that “no military intervention can replace a viable political solution to the conflict between Israel and Hamas.”
