/ world today news/ Regarding the South Stream and OPAL gas pipelines, European leaders are guided by political rather than practical considerations.
This was stated to ITAR-TASS by the former Minister of Economy and Energy of Bulgaria Dragomir Stoynev, writes Focus.
“I know that the European Commission (EC) has postponed the decision on OPAL until the end of October, and I think that this is of a political nature. The final decision will probably be taken by the new composition of the European Commission”, commented the Bulgarian politician.
“During the meeting with European Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger, I insisted on the need to exclude OPAL from the third energy package (according to which gas producing companies cannot be considered owners of gas pipelines in the EU), which would give more opportunities to take similar decisions regarding “South Stream”, added Stoynev.
