European Handball League: Benfica Loss Against RN Lowen

Benfica lost, this Tuesday, against the Germans of RN Lowen, by 36-35, in the third round of Group A of the European Handball League.

The Reds went into half-time losing 15-19 and tried to counter the Germans’ favoritism, but in the second half the visitors even had an eight-point difference.

However, the Eagles still managed to split the match and reach equality at 35 points, but a goal from Niclas Kirkelokke, at the sound of the horn, confirmed the away victory. The Dane, moreover, was the match’s top scorer with 14 goals from 15 shots.

Benfica recorded their second defeat in the competition, after the defeat against Nantes and the victory over IFK Kristianstad. The Reds remain in third place, with two points, four less than the Germans, who lead the group, and two behind the French.

Next Tuesday, the 21st, Benfica plays in Germany. However, before that, there is a derby with Sporting in Luz.

Also tonight, ABC de Braga lost to the Danish team Skjern, 32-25. Braga are in third place in Group D, with two points, four behind leader Nexe.

Earlier, Sporting lost in Hungary, at Tatabánya KC, 31-29, in the third round of group H.

The lions went to rest losing by just one goal (13-12), but in the second half the hosts opened up a six-goal gap, which was shortened in the final stretch by Ricardo Costa’s team.

Sporting is in third place, with two points, behind Tatabánya KC, which has four, and the Romanians from CSM Constanta (six).

The lions will return to action on the 18th, Saturday, with a visit to Benfica.
