European equities fell on the impact of falling oil prices on energy stocks

European shares fell during trading on Wednesday today as the European Stoxx 600 index fell 0.1%, under pressure from lower energy stocks and the impact of lower oil prices, while the Financial Times 100 index increased by 0.3%.

While shares of European mining companies rose 0.6% as copper prices surged on hopes for a pick-up in demand in the world’s second-largest economy after China eased its tough Covid-related restrictions, while shares of energy companies fell 0.8%, on the back of falling oil prices.

Meanwhile, the Stoxx 600 index is set to suffer an annual loss of more than 12% as fears about an economic downturn due to monetary tightening by central banks hit the European index globally.
