Within the day, the decision of the Supreme Court is expected on which parties will participate in the June European elections. The eyes, however, are focused on the decision that will be made for the “Spartans” formation.
According to information, the A1 Political Department of the Supreme Court is expected not to include the party of B. Stiga in the parties and coalitions of parties that will participate in the June 9 elections. “Based on the law of “real leadership” of parties, the Spartans’ descent ban must be taken for grantedlegal circles note.
It is recalled that with the order of the Supreme Court prosecutor to prosecute 11 members of the “Spartiates” for voter fraud, the convicted gold rusher Ilias Kasidiaris was recognized as the real leader of the organization.
What will happen to the seats?
At the same time, the question that remains to be answered is what will be done with the 12 seats they hold. A decision, which is pending after appeals have been filed on the legality of the Spartan party’s participation in Parliament.
According to the Constitution and current legislation, there are two scenarios for the Spartan seats:
a). To repeat the elections in the districts where the Spartans’ deputies were elected. It is a scenario that does not gather much probability, but it cannot be ruled out. If it is decided that polling stations should be set up, the dilemma that arises is whether the elections will be held in the specific regions together with the European elections or at another time.
b). The percentage of 4.68% received by the Spartans in the national elections translates into 12 seats to be shared proportionally among the other parties.
For its part, SYRIZA-PS, while waiting for the decision on the parties, pointed out the great responsibilities of the ND for the presence of Kasidiaris “by representatives” in the Parliament, underlining that “the political audacity and legislative ineptitude demonstrated by the Government with three failed legislative initiatives, for which SYRIZA PS had filed another legislative regulation, emboldened the neo-Nazis. As well as the undisputed meeting of a minister with a supreme judge on the legislative changes”.
How many parties applied?
In total, 46 combinations have submitted an application to participate in the June European elections, including the 9 parliamentary parties (N.D., SYRIZA, PASOK, KKE, Spartans, Hellenic Solution, New Left, Niki and Pleussi Eleftherias), well-known formations such as the MERA25 of Yanis Varoufakis, the LAOS, the Union of Centers of Vassilis Leventis, ANTARSYA, but also the new party formation of Andreas Loverdos, the “Democrates”.
According to information, of the 46 combinations that applied for participation, at least 14 parties and coalitions seem to be excluded as they did not pay the fee of 20,000 euros which is a necessary condition for their participation in the European elections.
