TRIBUNNEWS.COM, AMSTERDAM – European Drug Safety Committee (EMA) on Friday local time, warned that a coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine that uses an mRNA platform and is produced by Pfizer-BioNTech and Modern can be associated with 321 rare cases of heart inflammation.
Quoted from Sputnik News, Friday (9/7/2021), EMA said in its official release that they had conducted a review of 164 cases inflammation of the heart muscle (myocarditis) and 157 cases inflammation of the outer lining of the heart (pericarditis) associated with the use of two mRNA vaccines.
Symptoms of both conditions include shortness of breath, chest pain and palpitations.
The EMA says that 145 cases of myocarditis have been observed in individuals who received the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, while another 19 cases were among people who received the Moderna vaccine.

In addition, 138 cases of pericarditis were observed in individuals who had used the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, along with 19 cases seen after being vaccinated using the Moderna vaccine.

“The committee recommends listing myocarditis and pericarditis as new side effects in the product information for this vaccine, along with a warning to raise awareness among healthcare professionals and people taking this vaccine,” the official release said.
Please note, in total, there are 177 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and 20 million doses of vaccine Modern awarded in the European Economic Area as of 31 May.
