It was a disappointing week for Dutch clubs in Europe. Only PSV achieved a victory; Feyenoord, Ajax and AZ lost their European matches. It seems only a matter of time before the Netherlands relinquishes fifth place in the coefficient rankings to France.
PSV took two points for the Netherlands against Lens, which are shared by the five clubs that the Netherlands represented this season (0.4). The victory in a direct match against a French club ensured that the Netherlands still occupies fifth place, but the difference with France has shrunk to 0.003 points.

Just like Lens, Paris Saint-Germain also lost in the Champions League (2-1 at AC Milan), but France took full advantage in the Europa League. Toulouse (3-2 against Liverpool), Stade Rennais (3-1 against Panathinaikos) and Olympique Marseille (0-2 at AEK Athens) all won. In the Conference League, Lille OSC drew 1-1 with Slovan Bratislava.
Because France can prepare for the necessary bonus points, holding on to fifth place seems like a utopia for the Netherlands. Only a miracle can ensure that the Eredivisie is in fifth place at the end of this season. That spot yields four tickets (three of which are direct) for the 2025/26 Champions League season.
The Netherlands still has a lead of more than seven points over Portugal. As a result, sixth place seems safe for the time being and the top two of the 2024/25 Eredivisie season also seem to be allowed to enter the Champions League.
