Since the judgment handed down by the European court, the Superleague has regained some color. From there to seeing its next creation, it’s another story.
“It is a great day for the history of football and for the history of sport. From Real Madrid, we feel enormous satisfaction following the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union,” declared the president Florentino Perez moments after the long-awaited verdict.
This past December 21, the European court thus brought out from its ashes a project that seemed buried forever. The boss of Real Madrid, as well as the A22 Sports agency (responsible for communicating the project) expressed their satisfaction in press releases.
Announcements made explaining the format envisaged for their new competition, the one which aims to replace the Champions League. But in the eyes of some, like Tebas or Ceferin, the president of UEFA, this deliberation of the European court fundamentally changes nothing.

In the process, several clubs even re-showed their support for UEFA, or rather their opposition to the Superleague project. Manchester United, Bayern, Tottenham, Valencia… some examples of clubs which openly opposed Florentino Perez’s dream competition via publications on the networks.
CR7 gets involved
On the whole, these protests remained at the club stage, and quite rarely among the main parties involved, the footballers. Except that one player in particular, and not just any player, also wanted to share his opinion.
It is quite simply Cristiano Ronaldo, the current top scorer in the history of the Champions League, crowned 5 times in this competition in his career.
With a well-calculated like, the Portuguese showed the whole world which side he was on regarding this project. The Al-Nassr striker liked a message from the account of Fans United FC, a 3rd division club in Montenegro, which read: “Please don’t take away our dreams. Don’t let the Super League happen. Let us and all the small clubs continue to dream”. A like which obviously did not go unnoticed…
