European countries condemn Israel’s attack on the UN peacekeeping station in Lebanon

The leaders of France, Italy and Spain criticized Israel for destroying the bases of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The corresponding joint statement of the countries was published on October 11 on the website of the Italian Council of Ministers after it was signed online in the forum of the EU Mediterranean Union program in Cyprus.

“We express our urgency after the wounding of several peacekeepers in Naqoura… These attacks are unacceptable and must stop immediately,” – says the text of the document.

The countries noted that Israel’s actions are a violation of obligations under UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and international humanitarian law.

“We demand an immediate ceasefire, as well as full compliance by all parties to UNSCR 1701, which is the only way for the people of Israel and Lebanon to return to their homes safely,” – indicated in the statement.

In addition, the countries reminded that all peacekeepers must be protected, Izvestia clarifies.
