European countries are promising nearly a million MPox vaccines to Africa

European countries have already pledged nearly a million MPox vaccines to the Congo and surrounding African countries. 622 people have already died from the virus. This was reported by the public health agency of the African Union (Africa CDC).

European countries such as Spain (500,000 doses), France and Germany (100,000 doses) are providing vaccines from their strategic reserves to the affected African countries. The European Union is also providing 215,000 shots of the MPOX vaccine – with the encouragement of Belgium.

The African CDC is now urging the Danish vaccine manufacturer, Bavarian Nordic, to share the necessary technology to produce the vaccine locally. “We believe that the MPOX vaccine will be produced in Africa soon,” said Director General Dr. Jane Kaseya.

There are already 22,863 suspected cases and 622 deaths. According to the World Health Organization, the number of confirmed cases is just 5,281. That huge difference is said to be due to insufficient testing capacity and logistical problems.
