European corona travel ticket expires after nine months without a booster shot | Inland

In principle, a booster should follow a vaccination after six months, the European Commission suggested earlier. In addition, the EU Member States will be given a three-month grace period to be able to give everyone a booster shot. The new rules for the digital corona certificate will also not take effect on January 10, as was originally intended, but on February 1. Countries that started late, such as the Netherlands, have more time for the booster campaign.

Now that the arrival of the omicron variant has increased concerns about the resurgent epidemic, several EU countries have tightened their travel rules. Italy, Ireland, Greece and Portugal have again introduced mandatory testing, also for vaccinated people.

The Netherlands hopes that they will dare to celebrate again if travelers will soon have to get a boost to keep their corona certificate. A senior EU representative expects travel rules to realign everywhere in a few weeks, once there is more clarity about omicron.

Outgoing minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health) previously promised that all Dutch people can receive a booster shot in time. Travelers still have to pay close attention in Member States. No European agreements have been made about the use of QR codes as an entrance ticket for, for example, restaurants and ski lifts. These are national corona measures in which Member States have a free hand.
