The House is on edge because a motion by MP Pieter Omtzigt was passed a few weeks ago, ordering the cabinet not to take any steps until they have been approved by the House.
No permission
In a letter to the House, Kuipers writes that he will not take irreversible steps without the House being aware of this. And that, according to Omtzigt, is the rub: “That is villainous, because not taking irreversible steps is different than informing the House in advance about what they want to do and only continuing after a debate in the House. And that is what my adopted motion demands. “
He points out that the word ‘known’ means only to inform, not to ask permission. “I’ll just tell you that I set your house on fire and then you will be known in it. But you have not given permission.”

That stings Omtzigt. Because in the original plans, the corona obligations for travel would end on July 1. By agreeing in a European context to allow these measures to last for another year, people who have not had a booster shot within Europe, for example, cannot simply go abroad this summer.

“That concerns almost half of the population,” says Omtzigt. He also points out that the Health Council does not recommend boosting young people aged 12 to 18.
“By taking this measure you are forcing young people to get a booster shot, while according to the health experts this is not necessary. That is very ugly. It is bizarre that in many countries the measures are being scaled down and we are maintaining the vaccination requirements for travelers. Omtzigt says.

According to him, this is the world upside down and shows that the corona ticket is unnecessary and only hinders travel. So the government should not focus on supporting such a measure, he says, but should instead seek support from European countries that do not see it either in order to block its introduction.
Blocking Minority
“Now that a country like France is over, just like Spain, Poland, Sweden, Denmark and Ireland, and almost nowhere asks for a corona pass, such a blocking minority is coming into view.” According to Omtzigt, ‘the cabinet is playing with the confidence of the citizens’ because the plans would have a major impact on them. “If you want to lose confidence, this is a good way.”
On Wednesday and Thursday, the House will debate the European corona proof. It must then become clear whether the House will force the cabinet to take a different path.
