At European level, the Conference remains the most popular pear variety, with an expected harvest of 928,000 tons (+ 8 percent). This is followed by Williams BC, with 154,000 tons (-36.8 percent) and Rocha, with 138,000 tons (+ 3.9 percent). And that is at the expense of the Abate Ferel, with 52,846 tons (- 69.3 percent).
Among apples, the Golden Delicious, with a production of 2.168 million tons (+ 11.7 percent compared to last year), is still the most cultivated apple. This is followed by Gala, with 1,527 tonnes (+4.8 percent). Other new varieties, including Kanzi, were also planted more to the detriment of Idared, Red Delicious, Jonagold and Jonagored, among others.
